Now the losing team - The Red Team - Annalaxmi plate. I don’t know why they named the plate that.
Anyways, let’s begin..
Drink - Jaljeera + coconut water + Lime served in hollowed cucumber. I found this very cooling & refreshing. And the extra effort on the presentation was plus points in my books.
Salad - Now this was interesting, a cold radish salad stuffed into a fried cone. This was a bit similar to the blue team’s salad, but it’s kinda taken it to the next level.
Starter - Aubergine roulade stuffed with tofu. To be fair this dish was on the oily side, but I know that oil is needed to cook properly or else it would be chewy (I’ve had chewy aubergine, and it’s not nice #truestory). Even though I’m vegetarian, tofu is not my favourite, but here it was seasoned and cooked in a way that I actually liked! (Mom are you reading? :P)
Main - Now I give them points for innovation here. The open burger with channa patty over an idiyappam is something I was not expecting at all! They topped the patty with the most amazing hung curd sour cream to give it an overall biryani flavour. I think this dish would have worked, but for me, the channa had too much masala, and the idiyappam got lost in it all. I would have reimagined this dish as a bird’s nest with a smaller patty to balance the overall flavours. But here’s the kicker, to come up with a combo if idiyappam + channa, I’ve experienced this elsewhere, you know where - GAGGAN! Ofcourse it was prepared differently, but for amateur home cooks to think of such a combo was highly impressive. Here’s a pic of what I had at Gaggan - https://www.facebook.com/PetPujaris/photos/a.796658833724937.1073741893.200412460016247/796659250391562/?type=3&theater
Dessert - I can’t stress how good this dessert was! The barfi actually had a set cheesecake texture thanks to the White Chocolate they used. And then there was that Tuile, omg, they made a TIRAMISU Tuile and put it ontop of the barfi. So you’ve got hints of coconut + white chocolate + coffee + mascarpone cream + crunch in each bite. It was bliss and I am missing it now, while writing this down :(
Bonus - What they didn’t show on TV was a Paan Shot! Yes, the red team managed to make a Paan Shot. Now I’ve had Paan Shots before and the last one I had was actually very bad (it was at a wedding). But this I loved, as it was not overpowering in any way and was smooth and I think was a perfect end to the meal.
